@DaniC - any sign of your spring order yet? 👍
Nope. I ordered on the UK site, but turns out because of Brexit my order was forwarded to the branch in Germany. The order was preceded on Friday, but hasn't shipped. I reckon it'll be another week before I have them.

I'm confident it will be worth the wait. Sorry to hear it's going all round the houses.

This was meant to be delivered by FedEx today, but no sign of it. Maybe tomorrow!

Well that sucks then. 🙄 I'm still convinced they're going to work though. 👍 They're fit and forget parts. If I end up getting 20+ springs - 19 of them will end up on Ebay! 😁

Much stiffer! I'll put it on soon after putting the kids to bed.
That sounds really promising. It will be cool to see some side by side shots of the springs.

I reckon putting the thumbscrew onto the post with the new longer, stiffer spring will be more challenging. So long as it doesn't get cross threaded, the only other area to consider is the fettling of the spring into the cam/saver. It needs relieving by 0.2mm - which should be fairly easy to do. 😁

Guys, the new spring is an absolute success! At least from an installation point of view, I haven't driven it yet but I'm certain it'll be much better than the stock one just by how it feels.

Here's a few photos of the two springs side by side.

And fortunately, it fits fine in the servo arm, it's a bit of a squeeze, but it fits! And it fits fine on both the stock composite arm as well as the 7075 one.

Here you can see how tall the spring is when mounted onto the shaft.

However if you just place the thumb spring collar over the spring you will notice that the bottom of it nearly touches the threads below, meaning screwing it in isn't that bad and it won't compress the spring too much, but it does compress it some as you need to screw the collar down so it's flush with the shaft, which in turn will rest directly on the chassis when mounted.

Finally, here's a visualisation of how compressed the spring ends up compared to one that is free (these are both new springs). Don't mind the AAA battery, it's just there to help me keep the thing straight for the photo!

That's it! I've bench tested it by installing the wheels and turning it on and turning the wheels while holding them and I can see the saver flexing and doing it's job. But I really have to hold the wheels tight and it takes me a bit of effort to keep them from moving. So I'm sure this will drastically improve the performance.

So, to recap, you need part number LC 085J 0 M from Lee Spring, and make sure to select your right location! I ordered from the UK site because I didn't know they had so many locations but in the end my order got processed by Germany and this introduced some delay. It would have been faster if I had ordered directly on the Germany site.

Only thing left to do now is test? Nice job!
Don't forget to send TC the info on the spring they should be using..along with a bill for research and development!!🤣🤣🍻

Excellent write up - it's exactly what we hoped it would be. The discussion here was great and now we can have trucks that steer consistently.

I really like servos that hold centre accurately. If servo savers are too soft, servo speed and accuracy is compromised.

Nice job! 😁👍

It's promised to rain tomorrow! Typical, it hasn't rained for the whole week!
Hopefully Saturday or Sunday I should get a chance to test it.

Because of course it is! Your write up and pictures confirm enough for me to just order 20 springs. There'll be no admin/shipping costs then. The other 19 I'll offer here on the forum for those that want them and on ebay.

I suppose it's worth having a look for UK based companies that can make the springs to that same spec.

What I like about this spring is the space between the coils is larger. So you can compress it without eliminating the saving action.

This is definitely the sort of thing Corally need to update on the 23 version! 😁👍

Guys great news, I got to test my XTR today and this new spring is perfect! I can now turn at full or close to full throttle and the car actually turns and guess where I want it to go. And the servo saver still saves when it needs to save. It handles so well.
This little R&D project has been a success.

Great job DaniC! Thanks for all the super hekpful information and updates.

Looks like Leespring are going to be busy with this particular spring once word gets out! 😂

@Horatio
On a serious note, if you do order the springs let me know and I'll take three off your hands straight away.. (y)

Did anyone try the Arrma EXB hard spring.?? I'm a bit late to this party

I didn't. But if the measurements are similar it might work I guess. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Hi - my order for springs is on it's way. There was a slight delay due to Lee Spring. Co. UK not working properly on a modern smart phone. 🙄 I kid you not.

As soon as I receive them, I'll message you. 👍

@ Anyone else - if you would like one of these, please let me know here.
