Been there got the T-shirt, damage won’t affect usage just looks bad. As for the leaking diff , thicker oil will resolve issue temporarily but not a fix I think why so many corally diffs leak & fail is because there is to much play on outdrive cups, stopping o’ring sealing properly & excessive movement resulting in gears getting chewed up , the cross pin which locks it in place inside the diff needs extra shims which will in turn seal your o’ring better & less chance diff failure imo. I need to remove my centre diff so I’ll maybe pull it apart post pics later when do.

Add a couple of m6x12x0.1mm shims behind pin will help seal o’ring better & eliminate bit of the drive cup wobble. I add 0.2mm of shims think I tried 0.3mm but felt to tight.

Spot on 😀 , I was servicing the rear diff last night and the drive cup wobble is quite bad on one side so was thinking what shims shall I get and now i know. Thanks for that.

If you notice, only one o-ring per output seals the diff. The diff outputs themselves run through bushes and are not ballraced.

It's the same for top level racing diffs

As the bushes that the outputs run through - on the centre diff, that's the steel spur and the diff case itself - as they wear, they are going to develop slop and then leak. A small amount of leakage is inevitable, due to the design.

The design is basically the same for all our 1/8th diffs. I often wondered whether the diff outputs would be better off if they were supported on dual, rubber sealed, hi-speed bearings.

The only diff I see with a better way of sealing is the significantly larger Baja 5B diff

You'll note the output is passing through its own bearing, o-ring and bush! They definitely seal up well.

But they are bigger and heavier though.

It won’t eliminate the diff wobble but it will help reduce it , main reason I added shims was to stop leaking, my diffs leaked like a sieve I tried changing o’rings numerous times before added shims seems to be doing the job.
