What is the part indicated by the arrow meant for?

I don’t know either, but I use it for my motor fan wires to come out. I drill a little slot next to that arrow, just enough for one set of wires. I really don’t like the TC design where you have to take out the entire receiver box if you want to add or remove something to the receiver.
 
My MT12 arrived yesterday but I forgot to order batteries with it, ordered some heading out soon see if I can find some at my local store. If not isn’t a big deal I can wait until Tuesday if need be.

That's a good question.

Kronos XTR receiver box looked like this:

It's not suitable for a transponder - they usually have a 3 hole mount.

I had initially wondered if it was an alternative mounting position for a receiver on/off switch. But then the ESC has it's own switch.

I literally only stopped thinking about it when I changed my receiver box for this:

It makes much more sense and has twin aerial mounts. 😁

I don't think even Corally knows what it's for - there's no reference in the manuals. 😝🤣

Where did you get that receiver box? Also what tires are those and are they soft or hard rubber?

Antenna mounts are irrelevant for me though Radiomaster surface receivers use a PCB antenna integrated into the receiver. Express LRS has so much range and penetration that this works fine for surface receivers even with the receiver inside a box and under a body.

I still use FASST, which gives me good range, low latency and works with my preferred choice of stick radio - the 3VCS. Long story short - when I use clone FASST receivers (which are also virtually unobtainable now), they have 2 aerial wires that need a place to go.

Express LRS might well be an option for my surface fleet moving forward, provided the stick radios feel similar to the 3VCS.

That being said, I've just got a 'new' batch of R603FS receivers from Japan, so I'm ok for now. 🤞These have diversity aerials as well, but one of them is board mounted.

This is what I'm contemplating moving onto - but it is not backwards compatible with any of my existing FASST receivers - despite being a FASST Tx. 🙄 It does however bind with R604 FASST receivers, as well as all the latest FHSS stuff.

I have a Radiomaster TX16 MK11 and the quality is an amazing value for money totally blowing away anything in it's price range, but it in no way competes with the feel of my FrSky Horus X10. If you want a good feeling radio I'd recommend a FrSky X14 or X18, you can put an ELRS module in them but you also might as well just use a FrSky PWM receiver.

FrSky's ETHOS is also a lot more user friendly than EdgeTX while retaining most of it's flexibility. Ethos was developed by a former OpenTX developer that Frsky hired which is what EdgeTX was forked from. (which is the source of a lot of the FrSky hate from drone guys, they feel that FrSky "betrayed" them by essentially killing OpenTX by poaching the head of the project)

Now the MT12 feels way better than most of the common cheap wheel radios in it's price range and competes in the "feel" catagory with radios that cost 4x as much. Its also very durable the first week I had it I knocked it off a park bench onto concrete and the only damage was a tiny scuff on the corner on the bottom where it landed. They really knocked it out of the park with the MT12.

One great thing about both FrSky and Radiomaster radios is they sell every part including the mainboard and shell. Short of tossing it into a wood chipper you can always fix any damage. (you can also send it in for repair but if it's out of warranty DIYing it will be cheaper)

EDIT: I see now that is a surface specific stick radio, there's nothing really like that in the FrSky and Radiomaster lineups.

Yes, surface stick radios are quite niche and reserved for boats mainly I think. The Futaba I'm looking to 'upgrade' to is about £600 in the UK - plus the compatible receivers. 😬

All money I would rather spend on rigs, but...🤷

In fairness, it's a great radio with nice size screen - if it's anything like my current radio I should get about 20 years use out of it!

And that's the thing - I've only ever used Futaba for racing with. Memory muscle has developed such that pistol grip radios wouldn't be intuitive. Sure I can use them, but I'm continually concerned that I might goof and break my own shins!

Those radios look like excellent prospects for future drone projects, so either way, lots of good information here 😎
