Hey guys,

I've seen this Youtuber complain that the Torox 185 + Kuron 825 on the XTR overheats very easily. I thought I'd throw the question here to see if this is a known issue or not.
I haven't heard this from anyone else on this forum so that's why I'm a bit skeptical.

Hmm.. first I've heard of it too.. we really don't know what the ambient temps are there or if there may be some unknown issue with his truck specifically.
I think @razorrc probably has the most experience with the TC electrics that I know of.. How about it Razor?
I did run my TC electrics equipped XTR a few times in 70-80F on 4s without any issues..the batteries were warmer than the motor and esc though. Also, I have not installed a motor fan as I haven't seen a need(yet)..

His esc fan is on it's way out for sure, but that shouldn't have any bearing on motor temps. I just looked at comments on YT, he said 30C, so that is quite warm for ambient temp, at least compared to where I live.. 86F is a hot summer day for me..

Yeah that was me chatting to him on YT comments. He was using those electronics on his Dementor and was having the same issues. My theory is that perhaps he got a dodgy motor from the start or perhaps at some point it overheated badly damaging it slightly, so now it overheats every time and this in turn makes the ESC work harder and that's why the ESC cuts off.
Anyway, I'll invite him here to the forum, maybe we'll get him to do 25 posts and enter the XTR giveaway!

Nothing wrong with the stock electronics on an XTR. That’s what I run.
Thanks Razor(y) I haven't heard of any problems either but I know you've been running them quite a bit.

Side note.. I personally have retired 2 of their RTR servos.. JRC replaced the first for free, after the second twisted the output shaft, I just moved on to something else.

Yeah I'm not too keen on their servos either. Promodeler servos are my go-to.

Promodeler is definitely out of my price range. I'm sure they're great. I have HX3225 in most of my rigs. They're just another version of the venerable DS3225 but for some reason the Redcat version, Hexfly, holds up better for me.

Yup stock on my xtr and it’s never been hot. I do live in scotland tho 🥶😂
Not familiar with the weather in Scotland, but ambient temps will have an effect on these RC'S for sure. Here in NY, we have nearly 4 months of winter, 3 months or so of summer which is typically 25-30c. I actually don't even run rc's on hot days, my fat azz is chilling in the pool😎🤣

Forgot I had posted this. Turns out the XTR with the stock electronic on 4S does run hot, it was like 21-22C ambient temp and the motor was very hot to touch. Didn't have a thermometer with me unfortunately. Conversation on this thread suggests running on 6S should run cooler. Cross posting here to close the loop on this thread.

You can't really gauge temps by feel unfortunately. 62C can literally burn your skin in about 5 seconds and that is well within safe operating limits.

You're absolutely right! I just took it out and this time I measured it with an IR thermometer every few minutes. It's a warm day by Irish standards, 18C and sunny. The hottest the motor got was around 65C on the side of the can and 70C at the back. The ESC measured around 50C and when finished the battery was at 45C.
I mean, that's probably running close to the limits of what's ideal right? But it's not going to fry the motor.

70c shouldn't be a problem above 80c is when things start getting dicey.. I like to stay below that. I've seen manufacturer claims of 87c(190f) being an acceptable limit.. sounds like you're okay to me.

Do you know what's the limit on the Kuron 825 motor? I was looking for a spec sheet or something but couldn't find one.

The battery temp is the only one that raises concern. 45C is where damages starts to happen to the cells.

Yes that's right. My guess is that is getting hot because of the load, and it's only a 4S 25C sustained 50C burst. It's a Traxxas battery, the worst mistake I've made in this hobby was buying 2 x 4S Traxxas batteries along with the Traxxas charger.

Traxxas is probably the only company that doesn't use fake C rates but they are still a bit below average.
Imho the Spektrum batteries and chargers are just as bad as the Traxxas ones. They are both expensive and offer below average performance.

Haven't found any recommendations from Corally on motor temps yet, but did find some on the Spektrum blx 2050kv, 160f/71c.. so idk.

They're not terrible batteries as such, I'm sure there's worse, but for the price they should be much better. And I hate the property elements like the connectors and no proper balance cable etc.

I might open a support ticket and ask them.
