Bolt Depot has metric grade12.9 zinc plated cap screws fairly cheap, anyone tried these instead of the usual black oxide coated grade 10.9 button heads that come on Corally vehicles? From what I have read zinc plating actually resists corrosion where black oxide is mostly just decorative.

Zinc plated steel is standard in the automotive industry. I do not have personal experience with them on rc’s. Bell Metric has some 3mm and 2mm zinc plated in flat, button, and socket head, but 10.9 rating. They are a really great resource worth bookmarking if you haven’t heard of them already.

But yes, zinc plating resist corrosion. Lanolin sprays like fluid film work well for me on steel items like output cups, dog bones, bearings when you can’t buy them coated.

Stainless steel will always be superior to any zinc coated fasteners for corrosion resistance. The second the zinc coating is scratched it's open to corrosion which is not the case with stainless steel.

Stainless is also weaker than grade 12.9 metric screws. That said it also seems to resist rounding out better than the cheaper grade alloy steel screws.
