I tend to acetone bath my wheel/tire combo's so that I can separate the tires from the rim so that I can reglue them. When doing so the tires and rims survive, but the foams tend to lose their shape. I am wondering what kind of foam is this? In other words is it "LDPE" or something? The reason for askng is I'd like to source something from the industrial supply store to freshen up my wheelsets.

You can buy replacement foams not that expensive check eBay, amazon, AliExpress you’ll find plenty. Saw some of the cheap ones on AliExpress are pte foam.

Thanks. Pte=polyethylene I think? Replacement foams are over $10. I may be cheap, but that seems aggressive. I’d rather source material myself for 1/4 the cost.

The foam in seat cushions, settees might work not that I am saying get ripping up your furniture :D.
Not far from me is a little refurbish furniture shop and I keep meaning pop in and ask how much for a big block of foam and cut my own out, I am very cheap and will do anything to save money if I can :ROFLMAO:.

Foams can be open or closed cell depending the foams intended use.

For example, the Schumacher inserts I tend to use indoors are basically open cell 'sponge' type inserts, whereas the inserts with my Proline Hole Shot tyres are made from closed cell, much firmer - almost like neoprene - type stuff.

Inserts aren't changed very often. The important thing is that they are perfectly round and aren't allowed to get wet.

If you're thinking about investing that sort of time to fabricate your own foam donuts - you should probably consider balancing your wheels. As in - you definitely should. 👍

I think my foams may have gotten wet. I thought it was from the acetone bath but I bought some kagama 4 tires from jenny and acetone bathed them. They survived easily. So what I ended up doing is buying some 1/2" thick foam that is 12" by 12" from grainger (thats like 12mm by something by something in real units). It was $3.50 ish. So I cut strips and glued the ends together. Made an inner and outer strip for about 1" thick worth of foam. $3.50 makes about 2 foams. This is all a data point because I was looking at $12 for 2 foams from the cheapest source. For me it its worth having material around for 4s and 6s tires to make parts. This may not be for everyone but I wanted to just share what I had learned for others who may be searching for ideas.
