Don't worry, it's not the original model it's the reproduction. I paid $10 at a second hand store, slapped in a 2s Lipo and she worked! The transmitter is actually pretty nice too. Way better than today's RTR transmitters.
I probably walked five miles a day following that thing around. I didn't know any better and thought it was great! Yeah, I was pretty young then.

I had one of those! It had a wire running from the controller to the car and you had to follow it around.You are a yungin.. lucky!
I do remember having a couple of toy rc's that only steered one way, in reverse..didn't hold my attention for long
