I missed post #9 above..batteries getting hot too.. how hot we talking? Do you have a temp gun? Hot batteries indicates the batteries are struggling to keep up with the current the motor is pulling. It's a domino effect. Batteries struggling to keep up heat up, as does the esc. Going to a higher voltage battery such as 6s will lower amperage draw which is what generates the heat. I know my batteries get quite warm when running TC electrics on 4s..they all do, but I feel like the TC stuff really pulls some amps. Which is why they're faster than most rtr's.
Lowering the pinion size will help, better batteries will help, as will running higher voltage..

Also, if you don't have a temp gun, I strongly suggest you do get one. Invaluable tool to have with these rigs.
