The 'progressive' Vs 'linear' feel is causes people confusion.
Progressive feeling suspension (progressively stiffer as the suspension is compressed) is achieved when, as the arm moves up, and the shock becomes more perpendicular - at right angles - to the arm. This effect is achieved by moving the top of the shock inwards at the shock tower, thus laying the shock down more. It can be handy where there are bumps and jumps.
The more upright the shock, the less change to this angle and this is referred to as a more linear feel. Generally, standing the shocks up gives us a quicker reacting car - better for smoother tracks or technical tracks with a lot of turns.
Bear in mind that moving your shocks around will also directly effect your ride height and droop, so ensure that your droop screws are still setting where the suspension drops to - not your shock's piston in the shock body - and adjust the preload to maintain your desired ride height.
I've said it before - it's high time we get progressive rate springs for our 1/8th rigs. Very handy for tracks that have a combination of bumpy surface (suiting softer suspension) and large jumps (requiring firmer suspension and more travel to avoid slap). Also would be of benefit of people that like to jump to the moon.
MIP used to make them. Now I see only Traxass doing them? Hopefully they haven't got to patent these!
