Look at this pair of wheels over on the Arrma Forum. This is what was found inside. The inserts are destroyed.

The notion that the holes 'let stuff out' is overshadowed by the cold hard fact that they also 'let more stuff in'. Facts!

Centrifugal force will force some of what's got in out through holes drilled into tyres and many 1/8th racers choose to drill their tyres AND their rims. Not all though.

Many rims have a pre-drilled on the heavy side of the wheel. You'll note that tyres are never supplied pre-drilled. Ask yourself: why is this?

Water and dirt ingress gets in 3 ways.

Past the tyre bead where it has unbonded

In through wheel vent

In through tyre vent

Ultimately, the user has to decide what suits their conditions best. Is it wet, dusty or sandy?

I think a set of 1/10 tyres drilled for indoor carpet racing where there's nothing more than fluff to deal with would be okay. Just not outside on dirt, damp or wet.

Perhaps allowing stuff to get out through holes works under certain circumstances and I have raced 1/10th 4wd mod buggy on grass with vented tyres in dry conditions, but 99% of the time ran with vented wheels only and had been my preference since.

In wet weather, taped over the holes with waterproof tape.

For bashing, the tyre equalisation is less of a concern than it might be for a racer trying to achieve fastest possible times.

When tyres are squished, generally, you do want them to return to shape and conform to the insert asap.

However, this should not come at the expense of heavy, unbalanced wheels filled with all manner of crap! 🤣✌️

Agree & disagree, I had the same chain of thought after I went through a phase of blowing tires off the rims mainly due to foams getting wet so started not venting them but on my on road tarmac wheels/rubber when they get hot it causes the tires to expand & balloon a-bit but I will say I’ve only seen this happen on the cheap Toyo proxies I got off AliExpress. I don’t have pics of this but I might get a chance this evening after work to take the buggy out if do will throw them on.

Tyres exploding is a result of unbanded or unbelted tyres exceeding their performance envelope.

Stopping water getting in will help make the envelope bigger, but ultimately, higher speeds or unmitigated wheelspin will still result in tyres breaking apart.

Belted tyres 100% shouldn't be drilled. Venting is done in the wheels.

Getting the tyres warmed results in them getting stickier/grippier, but shouldn't result in any change in size or any ballooning whatsoever.

JetKos when they come up to temperature pick up everything - but they don't come off the rim because of it. It's important to balance them of course and ensure no water gets inside. 👍

I even balance my Savage wheels:

Even at 47mph - it makes a difference.

Honestly I don’t think it’s your glueing technique I personally not a huge fan of badlands I thought it was just me but I’ve see them come unglued on so many people I think they just to heavy a tire.

The Kagama tires again both grandsons bashing there brains out for 2 days straight zero glueing issues. It’s a shame I like the traction from the badlands guess I will need to look at another profile tire
