60mm Ali Express specials should be to reasonable scale and drop the ride height.

Well that might just work..
Next decision will be do I try to include the internal roll cage clipless body mount system into the new shell?

Wheels ordered Saturday evening from AliExpress, cleared UK customs this morning at 2am. Can't knock AliExpress, it's better service than most UK retailers 👏🏼👏🏼

This has been my experience of ordering from both Ali and Bangood. They are very fast.

Unlike most UK companies that seem to sell you things that they don't actually hold in stock, but fail to mention it on their website. Worse still - certain 'reputable' companies hold an order of 5 different things, sit on your money, whilst they wait a month for that 1 thing to arrive. That 1 thing that is actually listed on their website as available to order, but really isn't. I had to negotiate splitting an order of wheels, tyres, inserts and shock shafts - because front shock shafts weren't available for TLR for nearly 2 months.

By negotiate, I mean:

Me: 'can you let me know where my order is, please?'

WSM: 'we have all your items ready to ship, except TLR front shock shafts'

Me: 'could you dispatch the items you do have, as I need them for my next round'

WSM: 'we don't normally split orders, due to postage costs' 🤬

Me: 'OK, how about I have a full refund for an unfulfilled order then?'

WSM: 'We'll ship what we have via a 24 hour courier - sorry about that'. 😝🤣

Modelsport remains no 1 for speed in my estimation - they always seem to get things to me the next morning. Crazy good service.

I've been ordering 1/10th bits lately because of my racing endeavours and trying out some other UK places. DMS racing in Watford (one of my old towns) have been excellent. Likewise, RCModelShopDirect have been very good. MOD racing in US got me very scarce parts in less than a week.

I'm very happy considering I'm out on a limb in Southwest Wales.

MB models - excellent
Wheelspin - variable - excellent when they have the things they sell you.
AT Models - excellent

I try to keep to UK shops where I can, but certain stuff is near enough impossible to justify not importing in.

Temu have interesting bits and bobs - but they're not fast exactly. 😅

Agree completely with your experience and impression of British online/offline retailers and anything that involves posting something.

I have had firsthand experience of Wheelspin taking payment for items that they did not have in stock, and then waiting to receive the order of two identical items separately over the course of 8 weeks... unimpressed to say the least. Like you I'm a great believer in trying to shop local, to support independent businesses and our economy but in this situation when I realised they were giving me the runaround I just ended up ordering from Mr Bezos and had the items I needed in my hand the next day.

My personal favourite when ordering anything in the UK from an independent retailer is when I pay for next day delivery, I do actually expect that item to be delivered the next day or the day after if ordered in the evening. Too many retailers seem to think it's fine to post that stuff out two weeks later when Sandra from accounts gets round to processing the order. They always seem so shocked when I call to ask for a postage refund and I can't for the life of me figure out why. 🤦🏼

Shell butchering complete! I remember why I never attempt anything that requires a steady hand :ROFLMAO:
But all in all not too bad, will wait for the wheels to turn up before smoothing the rough edges and finalising the arches.
The real challenge will be trying to use the internal cage and clipless body system. The 205 shell is a lot wider in the middle so I am going to have to make some sort of spacers to bridge the gap.

Also not sure if I will have to cut the Mojave shell internals to fit into the 205 shell, the rear truck bed bumper assembly is part of the internal structure to so that might have to be lopped off so might just try and by a used Mojave shell instead of butchering mine.

Taking Notes Ryan The Office GIF by MOODMAN

Taking note of this :) , popping wheelspin models next week with my crimbo cash and going get a ickle mojave and this rally car conversion seems like a well cool idea (y)😄.

I use this technique for cutting bodyshells works great. The arrma quake has bodyshell reinforcement works a bit like roll cage could maybe try incorporating that. I saw some bead lock wheels looked a bit similar to the dimma 3 piece rims but not sure if could get right tires for it as they for a crawler but one thing about smaller scale there no shortages on wheel options. Look for injora 1.9 beadlocks you’ll find them. But found little rally wheels too with badlands on them.

I just found this on AliExpress: £10.17 | 4pcs 69mm Plastic Wheel Rim Rubber Tire Universal For 1/18 2S TYPHON GROM Rally On-Road Racing TAMIYA TT02 XV01 HSP 94123 HPI KY

Exactly the technique I used, but sadly I'm still a cackhanded idiot 🤣 and there's no YouTube video for that

The standard Mojave Grom wheels are 65mm. As they are meant be scale(ish) truck wheels I decided that I'd need smaller wheels more fitting for hot hatch scale and also to get the chassis and COG closer to the ground. I've gone for 60mm, will see how they look but I very much like the idea of Dimma type wheels too

I thought those wheels you posted looked familiar. I actually have a set id forgotten about. They're a little big but would probably be perfect for 1:10 scale rally wheels.

I threw out a load of old wheels tires & still tripping over them , bugs me how much space they take up with no nice way to store or display them really other than stacking them or stuffing them in a box lol doesn’t help when you’ve sets never run or used for years I’ll maybe go to beach someday use the paddles & not sure if can even get those Grp’s anymore I go through a quite a few vrp though they cheap & work for me. You’ll not be long in building up your own collection wheels tires if not done so already. I’ve been these enjoying the little 1/43 drift cars I picked & been looking at larger 1/24 1/10 ones if I go down that rabbit hole I’m fk’d when it comes to buying wheels tires so many options 😂
