So for the second time now I've inadvertently converted my kagama4 to front wheel drive.

So the first time it happened the cup had popped clean off the rear diff so my centre rear drive shaft was just spinning in thin air, on closer with inspection I noticed there was absolutely no loctite on the grub screw so I figured there's the problem.

I used a healthy amount of blue loctite, left it for a few days to cure, and I've had about three or four sessions through it and today it's gone again.

Has anyone got any suggestions or insight how to keep it on there or is this just what happens when you're pushing 17T pinion?

Ah yes, I have had this happen to both kagama 4s cars. One of two fixed ok when I fixed it and added Loctite.
The second one came loose and fell off very quickly.
When fixing it I noticed it felt tight quite quickly when tightening by hand, but it still had a few turns left.
Now it is correctly tightened I've not had any issues.

This time I'll test the grub screw off the shaft and make sure it's achieving the full range of travel though the cup 👍🏽

Make sure the grub screw is flush on the flatspot of the diff pinion shaft, I had trouble getting mine to line up but after a few tries I got it.

If you scratch a little mark on the top of the shaft you can see where the flat spot is when you put the drive cup back on, if that makes sense :)

Yeah it was definitely on the flat spot 👍🏽

I think you were absolutely right, the grub started to bite very very early.

I've stripped the backend completely now, so I can get it good and tight

Use a very modest amount threadlock - not too much. Degrease the grubscrew first. 👍

Grubscrews get gacked up very easily, can become impossible to remove if they strip and then require drilling out.

Just a spot of threadlock.

Loctite 243 - medium strength hand tool friendly. Don't use anything stronger without having a conversation with yourself:

'will I ever get this out again?' 🤣

Ooooh micro grabbit!
I didn't even know.
I have an extraction kit drill a hole, break drill bit, extract screw ... Buy new drill bit.
Another thing to add to the shopping list.

I hear you , every 3mm drill bit I've ever used has about 15 seconds of usage 😂
