Hey guys been looking at the HobbyWing Max8 G2 with Bluetooth for the Spark. Just seeing what yall think, looked at the Max6 also but have no plans on going over 6s. Use a lot of HobbyWing and Castle ESC’s in my planes both I’ve yet to have an issue with. Just figured I’d hit yall up see what you thought. Possibly will upgrade the motor at some point after I upgrade the last few chassis things I’m wanting to do. Either way boy the Spark is a beast, yea did diff maintenance yesterday then took her out for some play time

max8 doesn’t offer much over the stock esc as it’s a rebranded Hobbywing esc anyway, few extra features , sensored capability & Bluetooth but performance gonna be similar.

No nothing has died more into the racing with a small bit of bashing. I did have plans of converting the Kagama4 to run 4-6s was thinking the Max for the Spark and factory Spark ESC for the Kagama power up

I have several Max6’s in cars, but in the Spark I like to keep it lightweight (stock system) since we race Sparks. We all run 4s (light and nimble) and it’s plenty fast on the track.

The Max8 G2 is sensored, but apart from that isn’t a big upgrade. A max6 with a 4292 motor on 6s will be more powerful, but also a quite a lot heavier and depending a track not faster than a Spark stock on 4s (maybe with a bigger pinion).

Or how about this:

MM8 1515 combo

0-60mph in 3.68 seconds. 👌 It's certainly smooth and punchy for Buggy/Truggy use. Additionally, it doesn't seem as prone to getting over heated! 🤩

It's not that expensive, either. If you can get hold of the Bluetooth castle link, you can set it up on your phone and look at data logs etc. 🤓

I have the Max8 2250kv combo in my Asuga. With the 1650kv you might have trouble fitting the pinion without an aftermarket motor mount. FYI with sensored motors the order of the motor leads do matter unlike sensorless you must connect the A B and C wires to the A B and C connector on the ESC.

Also the bullet connectors on the Hobbywing ESC were very tight, I had to apply some dialetcric grease to the cups get them in (I used Super Lube). This will not affect the electrical connection, 95% of a mated electrical contact is actually air gap and only the microscopic "peaks" that interfere with each other have elctrical continuity (imagine two mountain ranges with one flipped upside down touching). The pressure at the points where they touch is incredibly high and the grease just gets squeeze out into the gaps.
