Can you actually remove the front diff with 4 screws?

I've openend up my front diff case lots of times already, but I was just looking in the manual and saw this. I've tried it this way, but can never get the diff case out. It is always blocked by the hinge pin holder. To remove that I need to remove 4 more screws, the skid plate and the hinge pin holder ones.

Is it possible this way or is the manual stupid? What am I possibly doing wrong?

It would certainly make it less off a hassle to check the diff.

Yanno, that's what it says; 4 screws and Bob's yer uncle. I have yet to remove only those 4 screws. It's always the two on the skid and the two on the HP holders and the 4 on the diff.

Plus side to doing it that way is that we have a closer eye on the diff shims and an easier time installing them correctly.
