Hey gang

Im after some belted tyres for my asuga....

Looking for some ideas.
I know there is sweep terrain crushers but they are 142mm so alot bigger than standard.
Then there is jetko king cobra which are only 6 or 7mm larger.
What about Louise wheels & tyres?
Or do traxxas maxx sledgehammer tyres fit?

Most of the Traxxas wheels have 1/2” more inward offset that standard wheels/tires. Why? Nobody knows. They also have extra material to their wheel hex design that would need trimmed away to work on a standard wheel. Finally Traxxas belted tires are super heavy.

I taped my skeeter tires to reduce ballooning and am happy with the results. Might be an option worth considering if you like your current tires, just want them “belted”.

how did you tape them? do you run them on 6S?

The tires need removed by soaking in acetone. Flip them inside out and give them 1-2 wraps with gorilla tape ultimate. Heat gun to activate the glue and 24 hours to allow it to fully stick.

Yes, I run them on 6s, but only a handful of packs like that as I normally run 4s. That car goes 58mph on wet pavement. I think it’ll go low 60 if I can get traction for reference.

Method rc terraform or arrma talion Katar prob best options if wanna stay close stock size

Probably best to just start with new tires if you're going to tape them trying to unglue already mounded tires may or may not work.

This is what I currently run on my Asuga: https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256809253034498.html. It is a high quality copy of the Traxxas UDR tire but with a standard hex.

If you use extreme gearing / very high revs it can detach the tape from the inside of the tire. But that can happen to belted tires too. Also, the normal gorilla tape is not a substitute for the Ultimate, it will work but it has more stretch than the Ultimate does. Gorilla ultimate has more adhesive, less stretch and is more effective at preventing balooning and staying attached.

They are identical (if not the actual ones) to the FTX DR8 wheels i have on my asuga.
Are they belted?

Personally I would avoid the "Sledge hammer" purely because of the massive amount of rotating weight or mass they create, they are proper heavy dude!
I hear good things about the "Louise" brand, lighter, well glued and don't have many people complaining about them. It's your call but I'd avoid anything too heavy :)

Agree. In my experience Traxxas belted tires are too stiff and heavy with zero ballooning. A little ballooning is desirable for me, it provides a bit of a transmission effect so i can run a smaller pinion but still get decent top end. I like one layer of the gorilla tape ultimate but prep is a pain. Im looking at the Louise brand next go around. I have belted paddle tires from Power Hobby that are also light. I also like their belting.
