Tech Tip: Caster

What is Caster?
The geometric relationship of the kingpin angle in relation to 90 degrees. Trailing caster is normal (top of kingpin tilted toward rear of car).
What is the purpose and effect of caster?
Trailing caster provides stability and a self-centering effect. It smooths out steering on corner entry, and provides additional mid-corner and corner exit steering.
How do you adjust caster?
Simply move the plastic clip spacer from the front to the rear of the arm (or vice versa) and try the difference in handling feel!

It's a way to tune the car for "track conditions" and drivers preference.
Camber is another thing that's in that category. On full out race cars the hinge pins can be adjusted by swapping out "pills" to change the angle of the arms in relation to the chassis. I've heard it called the "sweep" but it has a proper name from 1 scale suspension geometry.

There's no right, or wrong way to set them up (within reason) and drivers adjust them for each track. Sometimes they adjust them through out the day as conditions change.
