Sorry, totally disagree, my Kronos XTR has no extra fans, running Max6/4082 1750kv, never gets hot enough to warrant fans, and it's geared correctly (y)
But you aren't running a stock motor, right? So like I said, people need to compare Apples with Apples. 🤦

The stock electronics aren't a Max 6 with a 4082 1750kv, so you can disagree all you like and still be entirely wrong.

And by geared correctly, I take that to mean what is supplied with the XTR.

So running the gearing supplied by Corally, with the Torox and Kuron combo, it gets thermo nuclear even on 13/52 - but to be fair it's a much quicker motor 2050kv. On grass it gets hot so quickly.

Without a shroud, the ESC fan gets clogged with crud. So even if you are entirely oblivious to the impending motor seizure, you can't miss the obvious ESC drama heading your way.

Obviously, I tried different motors on 6S, and for general hooning around, I found the Surpass 4292 1780KV to be a much cooler running and more powerful option. Cheaper, too. For £50 you really can't go wrong.

However, given that I now take advantage of dual fans, I can gear it up for some seriously impressive speeds too - and without burning up.

Apology accepted! šŸ¤£šŸ˜

Those Surpass motors are excellent. I bought one when I was killing motors this summer and it still puts in work. It sees nothing but 6s on a SCT and I just roost all the berms all the time.

They're a great motor for modest price. They're also beginning to find their way into spec racing too - in Mini and LMGT3. šŸ‘Œ

That's not something I thought would happen, but they're clearly finding favour out there - even with super particular 1/12th racers.

I drain a 9200mah battery in 8 minutes. I’m down to 12t on my pinion. Fans needed. I don’t lift till I see Jesus…
When the pinion is too small, the motor will rev up too fast, because it has too little load. So at some point you're better off gearing back up, to keep it from over revving.

In my opinion fans are just something else to break and have to replace.. gear correctly and you shouldn't need any extra fans..!!
That is unless you live somewhere very hot and bash at midday..🤣
I've never broken a fan but my Asuga has annihilated a lot of tires including a new set of jetcos where they game unglued and the belts detached from the tire carcass on the first bash session. Such is life when you shorhorn a 1/6 scale Castle power system into a 1/8 scale car.

My Asuga is running a Castle 1717 (47x85mm)1650kv motor with a 17T pinion, still gets hot.

I had my Asugas running a 23t pinion and 46t spur, with the Max6 g1 and 4985 system. It was too much for the 6s battery. It got hot. They are now on 21t pinions. It's perfect on 6s. My 4s batteries still get a bit hot. I mostly run them on 4s, because that's plenty fast, so i end op with 20t pinions.
Your 1717 is similar. You can go 20t and possibly bigger.

But as i said earlier: going full power until the battery dies, will overheat any motor. No exceptions.
