The agonising wait is slowly but surely coming to an end.

KKPIT has begun packing my replacement gears, it’s going to be a long haul from China to Malaysia!

If you are getting a replacement remember to ask for shims 13*16*0.20mm and a pack of diff gaskets. KKPIT will surely obliged.

Just watched this he dropped a 1721 2400kv into one can guess how that ends 😂

He took one for the team. Mad 'spects.
On second thoughts, 100mph isn’t something I’d attempt without a front wing.

Ah, the pain. KKPIT has indeed shipped me a big box of rocks.

The replacement spur gears are completely out of shape and is worse than the defective originals.

Still waiting on mine but so far its held up 🤞, I will give them a poke see what's cracking off with my freebies

In my conversation with the KKPIT guys they claim they are very confident the new design is robust, they have tested 10 sets at 4s. Whatever that means, but they will "send me one of the units as proof" as I became sourly skeptical. Anyway I'm very at waiting for the postman and this is pure agony.

I found more issues while waiting for my gears to arrive . I had 2 shocks, even though built carefully last month that didn’t seem to seal no matter what.

it was a poor design to sandwich a rubber diaphragm AND a rubber o-ring. In my years as mechanical engineer / designer with similar parts we never practiced this for our environmentally resistant tough parts.
At first I mistook this to be the cause and built the shocks anyway.

2 leaked no matter what I do.

I ordered a 2 more replacement caps as I wondered if I stripped or cross threaded the plastic shock caps. Eventually this is the root cause

The one on the right is horribly malformed, and it is a sign of poor extraction / ejection from the molding process. Upon careful inspection even the one on the left is also deformed even though my 1 single picture above does not show it clearly.

In effect the internal surfaces important to seal against the rubber diaphragm was never flat or true enough. There was plenty of plastic shrinkage / sink marks to cause a concave inside. Again darned hard to photograph.

The luck that I have with this kit / brand is weird. I actually bought 4 spare shock caps, added with 1 in the kit that was deformed and 1 from the spares I threw away 2. It’s a good thing I bought spares for the heck of it. It was actually out of courtesy to cover the Taobao shipping for them to bundle in the 1st batch of replacement diff ring gears. I could’ve insisted on getting just the gears for free but thought what the heck I’ll just order some spare parts.

Am I going to discover more QA/QC issues?

The bettle is still going strong lost count of the packs that's gone through it now, only thing that has happened is the paint is peeling off where its been crashed / hit as me and my friend race them and we ain't kind to each other 😄.

It’s great to have mates! I’m so alone 😩 yeah so far the kit is going strong for me too. Can’t really find a fault. It’s a matter of time before I a get beetle.

Its been almost 5 months and lots of packs through it. I'd like to think I've put it through the ringer. Damage report thus far -

Bent a rear center driveshaft - straightened it back with a vice.
Bent a rear chassis brace, composite plastic - Going for 7075 upgrade now.
Very likely due to a full throttle double backflip that ended up with a jackhammer onto the grass.
Overall I feel that the chassis strength could do with an upgrade center wise.

Found that on my version with monster 1/10 tyres, the steering does not work so well. I've also put on an order for aluminium servo mount. I've been using a 35kg coreless servo its ok.

The Beetle is still going strong only thing replaced so far is two rear hub bearings :) also the front tyres came unglued while running it on 6s 😅, the compound kkpit use are super soft and grip amazing been looking into getting a set of the buggy tyres but at £12 postage its a hard to justify 😑.

Was watching a video on this the other day, I'm wondering if that body will fit on the Shiroi, I think the wheelbase is a tad shorter though

Want me take some measurements for you? If so let me know what you need :)

The body has taken absolute beating and not broke yet.

My body is also cracking at places and is in the process of being shoe goo+mesh taped. But I see your paint is also cracking and i must wonder if the PC shell is somehow not bonding to the paint we use? I’m not using Tamiya PS paint but another automotive spray that bonds very well to other PC shells…
