Well, it looks like there's a club fairly local to me that host WRCA rounds. They meet every other weekend. The next meeting is 14th September. So I register with the BRCA and buy a transponder.

It's a fragment of the old club SDMCC that used to run back in the day out of Swansea. 😅

This club concentrates on 1/10th, Tamiya classes and primarily indoor racing only.

Let's see how my TLR does. 👍

If the club concentrates on 1/10th tamiya classes you sticking a hornet shell on it and going dominate the races ;):D

Oh my lordy lord! Look what I just found in deepest, darkest Pembrokeshire! 🤩

Old School Yes GIF

That's got a bit of everything that has :D
Yep! It really has. It never used to. It's been a couple of years since I visited. It was always home to an annual Hill Climb event.

It's Llys Y Fran Dam, in Pembrokeshire. It's really nice to be fair.

It's right out in the sticks though.

So here's where I'm going to be at:

It's going to be just like the good old days. Only even faster. 😅🤞

Good grief!! Has it by damn! 🤣 Or should that be 'by Dam'. 🤣

It's a small world. As it turns out, you may have zoomed past me at speed whilst I spectating. 😎👌

It's very narrow and twisty innit? 😅

Very twisty, I think it was 1st and 2nd most of the way and I might have hit 3rd at the finish.

My MRT Pro Transponder has arrived, complete with a hand written ID from Team Serpent in Kent. 🤩 Nice.

Which reminds me - I still really want to build one of Billy Eastern's Serpent SRX8T-E Truggies. 😅

They still exist. 😎

But - I'm so close to starting a new Kraton project.

It's time for prepping the tyres. The general purpose Proline Holeshots are not appropriate for EOS carpet, so in the UK, the go to tyre is the Cactus Fusion. I opted for Yellow compound and I hope they last a couple of rounds. 🤞 Racing outdoors on grass, I used to take a box load of tyres - because weather can change the track over the course of just 1 day - let alone a race weekend.

I also needed to fit the MRT Pro Transponder.

See if you can spot it.

Meanwhile, the punchy Gen$ Redline HV 140c packs are balanced and put up to 25%

The wheels were prepared and the tyres bonded with zap, following some special prep. Now they need a short period of scrubbing in on either the carpet at the track, or some nice smooth paved area.

Bench is crazy untidy again already. 🤭

Buggy is ready. Thumbs are ready. Pit box, parts and tools need to be organised into a manageable carrier that can be loaded into the boot.

This will soon be for 2 cars - as my young Grandnephew wants to race too! 🤞

I was looking at serpent truggy recently stumbled across it on AliExpress was a fair bit cheaper than serpent uk ( they’re website not the best) but was on sale for less than £400 with all spring steel outdrives turnbuckles & electronics bit of a bargain I thought. £450 now which still decent price for one.

I just found this on AliExpress: £753.32 | Serpent 1:8 RC Car Truggy-e 1/8 Off-Road RTR 4WD High-Performance Brushless Motor Electric Remote Control Car (without Battery)

I'd definitely be interested in the kit version. 👍

All sorts of innovative design features on the pro version. Bigger drive pins, gaitors/booted driveshaft joints, decent shock seals, 7075 parts, wider bearing support etc.

Not as fancy as the Sworkz or Sparko, but every bit as purposeful from what I've seen of them. Rare though.

No one races them, which surprises me - they perform really good from what I've seen. One person stated that the driveshafts are easily bent.

Otherwise - all good.

Nitro versions have to have some part fettling to avoid fouling the carb.

I didn’t see any other versions on uk site except for the nitro not sure if other kits out of stock but was couple wks ago. I did see different variants of buggy before. Rtr was more budget then kits higher quality components guess truggy the same. But definitely look good value overall

But if you get a Kraton at least I know I can find a home for the scorched parts I’ve ordered for a rc build I yet have the rc car for 😅.

Are Surpent a uk rc brand ? Been having a look at these kits today they seems really nice :), seeing how they pop on aliexpress I assume not made in the uk ? . I still remember how some of the old British cars were a bit hit n miss remember the bonkers TVRs looked cool as hell but not the most reliable 😅.

I thought they were Taiwanese but they based in Holland but main distribution from china. They do have a uk distributor serpent uk. They only seem to have the truggy as nitro kit @£680 nitro buggy same price. They have the rtr buggy @£500. So £450 on AliExpress for truggy good price, AliExpress often have sales & promotions so if lucky might be able to pick it up for £400 again price I saw it at. Official serpent site lot more info & pics than the uk site if interested.

Serpent have been around a long time and made competitive 1/10th and 1/8th circuit racers. They were founded in Northern Holland in 1977. They have won lots of stuff, including IFMAR worlds and all sorts of good stuff.

Much like Corally, around 2005, they sold the company on and one of the surviving founders - Pieter Bervoets - focused on the very successful Virtual RC simulator.

Serpent now still has designers like Rody Roem and Billy Eastern, but production is in China.

Serpent UK is based in Kent.

They're great rigs, but not as common as they deserve to be..
