Has anyone of you mounted the Hobbywing max6 combo on a team corally 6s model (shogun, kronos ...)? If so, have you noticed any difference compared to the torox?

Max6 has sensored motor biggest difference, ran torox185 with 4292 1780kv in my Kronos got quite hot would guess the max6 would run cooler but have it paired with hobbywing 4990 now so can’t really compare the 2. But more tuning capabilities with max6, has sensored motor & would run cooler compared to torox probably biggest differences.

But the model with combo max 6 is faster than stock combo tc? I mean with 22 or 23 t pinion

The Max6 can handle bigger motors than the stock Torox. Motors like the 4985, 4990 and 4092 are much more powerful than the stock 4074 motor.
You can gear them up higher to make more speed. Most people use the Max6 and equivalent systems to have a cool running truck, though. Some like the extra speed they can get. Some like to wheely their rigs.
Just keep in mind that more power means more weight, more wear, more maintenance, and usually the extra weight affects handling, and more weight and speed cause more damage in a crash.

Thanks for the reply. I would like to bash on grass or on dirt roads,on combo max6 I would like to put a 22t or 23t pinion, do you think the motor will heat up too much with a pinion like that?

Probably. Maybe a 22t is a bit big for cool running.
I'd try an 18t first and see how it goes.
Grass is hard on the system.

I can confirm 22t will overheat a max6 combo in about 5mins, on that gearing 22/52 your estimate top speed is nearly 100mph, arrma that gearing might be ok but on corally your best sticking to 13t-18t range. 15t over 60mph+ estimate

100mph seems a bit too much to me, I already own an Arrma Kraton V5, I think it would reach 100mph?

I am running an Asuga with the 4985 motor and 23/46 gearing. It does a calculated 90 mph on Arrma Mojave 6s wheels. It runs great on sand and loose dirt, but i can't run it in grass like this. It gets too hot. Running this setup in a Kronos with the bigger wheels will probably fry it before you get it to that 100mph.

Agree I put mine into thermal in about 5mins running on grass with 22/46 with 4990 on truggy wheels so about same size as mojave didn’t get anywhere near 100mph though can’t keep wheels down lol

Agreed. I run a lot of grass, probably 70% or better of my run time. Soccer fields, baseball fields, parks, etc and even with dual fans you need to watch the temps. I can push it pretty hard for a few minutes but then I need to dial it back for a bit. If you run heavy on the throttle, the grass really likes to heat things up. If I’m on a harder surface like dirt or concrete, everything seems to stay much cooler. It doesn’t matter if I’m running a Kagama, SSTE or one of my track rc’s, grass runs hot imo. I have no idea what my top off-road speed on grass would be but I would be horrified of anything moving 100mph off road, I’m not sure how you would control it. That’s basically a drone at that point.

100mph is nothing but overkill for running off road.
I have my Mojaves 6s with 4985 motors set up for 60 mph on 6s. I never get them to top speed, because it's uncontrollable. 40 mph or a bit faster is just right imo, so i could just as well run them on 4s. These heavy cars run better on 6s though.
I haven't tried it yet, but i think i could very well run the Asuga on 4s. That thing is so freaking fast with the 4985 on 6s.
I don't run my rigs on grass often, but i think if i can get the gearing right for grass, i can run them everywhere. I was already considering gearing them all down a tooth or 2 on the pinions.

I've ran a 4092, 4292, 4282, 4985, 4074, 4270, 4070 and 4274 on my Shogun/Muraco with a Max6. Never ran the Torox esc, but did run the Torox motor. Gearing-wise, I've found that all these motors with the exception of the 4270 TP motors prefer gearing to be around the 13-15T range on 4S for track usage.

Regarding the Max6 and Max8 tuning, they're both the EZ-Run series, so adjustments/tuning is minimal. Stepping up to the XR series opens up a bit more of tuning, especially with the Bluetooth dongle.

Like mentioned earlier, heavier motors and bigger escs equate to more weight, so it's a little more intense during the tumbles and sometimes more catastrophic.

Current setup in the Shogun is a HS 4274 1800KV with a fan, 15T pinion and 46T spur. Esc is a MMX6S and they're powered by either a 5200 or 6500 4S. If I run the 6500 pack at race pace, she'll give me an easy 15mins. The 5200 pack will give me about 10 mins. Temp isn't an issue for any of the electrical components and she'll easily do back-to-back runs.

One of my race buddies runs a Max8 and the Torox 185 motor on a Losi 8IGHT 3.0. He runs a 3S pack, but because he doesn't carry alot of weight and his voltage is lower, he runs at 50-60% throttle through the whole track. He's a pain to deal with. He also used to run a 4092 motor, also on 3S. That thing also stressed me out.

I should clarify; my buddy is usually running at no less than 50-60% throttle. He'll let off for maybe a second in the really tight turns, but then he's right back on the throttle. I can throw him a whoopin, but as soon as I lose consistency, he cuts the lead down to a turn or two.
