hello everyone, today I ran with my shogun with two of my friends who had the Traxxas sledge and the arrma mojave (hobbywing max 6). Despite having put on my shogun a 35kg jx servo, the model steers little. I remember that horatio recommended replacing the stock steering saver spring with LC 085J 0 M from Lee Spring.
Do you think I can solve it with this spring? Is it really worth replacing it?

The spring they pretty weak another trick to keep it tight is add a 17mm wheel nut. I added a hpi hard spring to my Kronos but thought it was too tight and cut a coil off it but after running on grass found it too soft, like you little to no steering 🤦🏻‍♂️, so I’ve ordered another, on gravel or a hard surface or testing on bench steering is fine but on grass heavy load on tires to much for soft spring. The hpi spring not a perfect fit but it makes it tight without completely locking it up, just don’t chop it like I did if try it.

Hi, have you tried to fit the spring Horatio was talking about?

Hmm, I wonder if you could stretch the bottom loops of the HPI spring to make it fit correctly. Maybe on a ring mandrel. Lately I've been reading up on metalworking and smithing, might have to do some research about annealing and heat treating music wire. @Nelson.81, have you tried it without the loops cut off? If so, was it a noticeable improvement over stock? Might have to add it to my cart for the next part order. I'll also look to see if I can find other potentially fitting springs from different brands.

No I tried searching it but couldn’t find anything with that part no.
It's only available from LeeSpring. Effectively, it's made to spec. You need to buy 10 springs to avoid an administrative charge, but with 2 of you now needing this spring - that's only 5 springs each if you share the costs. You can sell the ones you don't need. 👍

If you like having a functioning servo saver that still affords steering, you'd like the spring I refer to, rest assured.

The problem with compressing the spring like this to get some steering back, is that there's no longer any saving action left and every knock or tumble risks magic smoke from your servo.

With the specified LeeSpring, it requires no modification and doesn't need to be clamped down - because it's wound with the correct grade of music wire, has the correct spring rate and is put under just the right amount of compression to allow strong steering - but - will allow enough give if something bad happens.

Yes - it's unfortunate that you need to buy 10 to avoid an administrative charge, but this is because you're buying direct from the manufacturer. They work out much cheaper than typical springs from any of the big RC brands.

Buy 10 springs, sell 9 of them. 👍

It doesn't matter how big and powerful your servo is if your servo saver is all floppy! 😝

I did try it without cutting and it was tight as hell could barely compress servo saver, was a little give with lot of force but not much. Like you say if can open it up a little it would be perfect. I have ordered 2 this time to try it, but not in stock have to be ordered in so be a wk or 2 before they show up.

I’ve 2 hpi springs on the way if I can’t make them work this time I know where to go

unfortunately I don't know what to do, I live in Italy, they told me that they don't sell springs to private individuals... Has anyone of you succeeded? If you have more than one, can you put it up for sale so I can buy it?

Try:

LeeSpring Germany

This should save any EU shipping related drama.

Yes - I bought 10 springs for around £35, then sold 9 of them. All of which went overseas except 1.

The unit cost is around €4.50 now before shipping - when you buy 1-19.

There is a minimum expectation of any order being placed of being over £30, otherwise you pay an admin fee. Fair enough.

I had no trouble buying them from the UK branch - but I live in Wales, UK. You should try the German or French branch, being resident of the EU.

I wonder if I could find something equivalent here?

https://jlcmc.com/

Unlike most such places they don't change a handling fee for small orders. I've been buying bearings from them for a while now. They're a branch of JLCPCB a company that makes small run PCBs for indie hardware developers and electronics hobbyists.

You might, provided they enable you to choose your own spec.

This is what I will use on any Corally Kronos/Punisher/Kagama/Asuga platform because it works with authority, but still saves enough to prevent serious damage when the inevitable happens.

In my case, my rig took a trip into a concrete kerb at a very high speed during some damp weather. Nothing broke!

Full opposite lock slide into a kerb at around 60mph. The shame of it! 😱🤭
