Kronos XTR Back to the basics

So ever since i built my kronos last year i ran it on 4s. Never really had much in the way of problems. Most every thing was user related or wear n tear. Few months ago i decided to try 6s, from the get go it was a desaster. Drive shaft breaking, pinions breaking ect, never made it through a full pack once. Left a sour taste in my mouth. Decided to go through it and try 4s again with stock gearing. Ran 2 packs today and it performed great, brought the joy back thats for sure. From what ive found these rigs are best suited for 4s, they are just to fast on 6s and the drive train cant handle it. Now i need some brick 4s packs, killed a 2s pack today too battery shifted forward and cut the balance wires.

For my Radix6 and Muraco, I have Spektrum 4s and SERC 4s batteries, plus two HRB 6s batteries. The Spektrum batteries were purchased for other vehicles, and the SERC was purchased solely for the Muraco. The HRB batteries were purchased when I first bought my Radix6. I run Hoovo 4s batteries in my Maxx, and I highly recommend them. If I had to do it all over again, I wouldn't buy Spektrum batteries: they are expensive, and I only got them because they were on sale.

I have run mine on 6s from new but have the futaba 4pls radio so I can turn everything down power wise got it running great but took some doing

I have a Radiolink RC6GS radio system. I fine-tuned the throttle and steering, and it made a huge difference in the performance of both my Corally vehicles. It took a lot of experimentation to get it to the point they are today, but it was well worth the time spent. Using Throttle Exponential was a big help in taming them both on 6s.

Glad to hear you've been able to enjoy the xtr finally!! I run my xtr on 4s the most, 6s is a handful for my small area.
My brother picked up a kronos rtr late last year..he even bought a pair of 6s 6000mah bricks to use in it.. he's finding the kronos to be a bit too much on 6s!!
For the record.. he has a Sledge, 2 E revos, Kraton 6s, Talion exb and Typhon 6s.. all of which are run in the same area on 6s. The TC powered kronos is too much on 6s he says!! LOL. Can't control it!! .."I told ya" is my reply..

I ran my XTR on 4S for the first 6-8 months and it's great fun like that. However I always had that 6S itch so early this year I bought a 6S pack. I also felt that motor and battery where running too hot, despite having a big heatsink with two fans on the motor (TC stock electronics).
On my first outing on 6S I destroyed the left front corner, but it was 100% my fault. Since then I'm enjoying it on 6S but I'm taking it easy. The stock 13T pinion is too much I think so I've dropped to 12T pinion and it's still very fast, it does up to 70kph which for a rig of this size and weight is plenty IMHO.

The XTR on 6S on stock gearing, using the Corally ESC and Motor is good for 62 mph!! 99 kph!!

And 0-60 mph in 4.2 seconds.

This is waaay more speed than anyone really 'needs' for a Muggy, especially off road. That's partly the fun of it - it's completely bonkers.

However, with great power, comes huge responsibility - in this instance - proper throttle management and a decent radio. Good servo saver setup. Decent receiver. Failsafe. Servo.

If you don't manage the power, the torque from this brushless rig on 6S will break things, bend things, blow seals (for any Eskimos reading this - no, not those kind of seals)

At such speeds, crashes are much, much more severe and stuff is inevitably going to break.

4S is generally much more sensible and less stressful on the XTR. Like many people have commented - the Corally Electronics on 4S are more like the other brands RTR stuff on 6S. The reasons for this still aren't adequately explained. Presumably, it's some sort of Corally electronic wizardry. Maintenance intervals on 4S will be slightly longer than on 6S, too.

All the extra go on 6S requires matching reflexes, hand-eye coordination and lots of room.

They do tend to run on the hot side from my experience.. interesting that so far, my brothers rtr has been running quite cool on 6s, all stock. We'll see when ambient temps go up in the summer months if that stays true. If he continues running 6s, he's already talking 4s..

In my experience the motor runs very hot, but the ESC doesn't run hot at all.

I think it must be something like that.

In my experience the motor runs very hot, but the ESC doesn't run hot at all.

Yes 100% - my motor needed dual fans and a cover to stop crap from blocking the fans. The ESC seemed fine, even with me hooning it around at 60 mph.

Been fine on 4s with truggy sized tires with 17t pinion. The motor on the Tekno never gets over 120F..no fans,18t pinion.. think I may even try a 19t pinion. The esc's have never seemed to get hot.. the Tekno is just fast and smooth!! It's my favorite truggy to date. It's not truly an ET48, but rather an extended chassis MT410. Close enough IMO.

I have 2 Tekno's, the other being the recently discontinued SCT410.3. Both are great machines. There seems to be just a next level feeling with them, I think this applies to most machines from "Racing" companies. Super tight tolerances, and lightweight without being too weak. I also have a 2007 Xray buggy. It's old, but it's definitely very different from say a Typhon 6s that my brother has. Nothing against the Typhon, it's a great rig but, heavy and somewhat "loose" by comparison.
I think it depends heavily on what's popular in your geographic that should lead your decision to which is good for you. Any of the race level rigs should be comparable.. I mean, sure, Kyosho makes a great 1/8 buggy, but parts in the US are hard to get, and expensive. Tekno is abundant here, which helped me make the choice.
The Xray was a second hand purchase. The chap I bought from had a box of spares, new in package, and all with price tags from a local shop. Not sure how many sell Xray here in the US, seems less common here.. the price was right, I couldn't resist. Glad I bought it, has been a pleasure to run. Hardly ever breaks, a really nice buggy.

I should point out that an Xray kit is around $700 in the US currently, which of course requires a substantial amount more to complete. Easily over $1000 when ready to race. A Typhon 6s is rtr for around $500. Apples to oranges really..

In fairness the 2 servos I use in my XT8 cost more than a Kronos XTR.

But, as you point out - they're totally different to the basher rollers.

The XT8 is a scalpel, where as the XTR is a lump hammer!

But a Tekno Truggy would be a lovely build to add to my fleet. It would be very interesting to do an apple/apple comparison of the XT8 to a NT48 2.0

That would likely put me in divorce court! LOL
But, if I were a gambling man, I'd likely choose the XT8E, more versatile for my use. Love the truggies.. but my wife even more!!

Fairplay! My missus, whilst not exactly enthusiastic about my RC pursuits, tolerates it rather well most of the time. I'm not sure if she would be all that impressed if I splurged on a brand new rig at £599.

However, I write this whilst enjoying a holiday in Rhodes that my wife surprised me with for my birthday. Bless her. So I do my best to keep things fair with any disposable income.
