Oops, I thought my motor failed. Complete lockup of all wheels. Carried it home.

Never mind, I'm a big fat idiot. When I got home I took off the motor cover and a massive rock perfectly jammed under the center diff.
I don't know why this site doesn't have an option to erase posts. So now, like those problematic tweets about Dracula I made while on Absinthe, I can never erase the evidence of me jumping to conclusions.
Okay, everyone, line up in an orderly fashion and everyone will get their chance to throw a tomato at me. Rotten tomatoes are NOT allowed. Ignore the picture of the Max 8 box in the cr*pper. It was clean anyway.

Thank Jeebus for metal diff cases. The rock did a number on it.

It'll buff right out! 😝 You were unlucky, but rocks, twigs and other debris do get into the chassis, which is largely open. Typical truck bodies do little to prevent the ingress of foreign objects

For that reason, given that such debris can jam fans resulting in rapid over heating and subsequent failure of expensive electronic stuff - principally ESC and Motor - you should run a shroud:

= Problem solved.

They make very little difference to air flow, so draw your own conclusions when you read people claiming overheating issues.

The conclusion I arrived at is that people were overheating their rigs due to usage and gearing, then attributing such failures to the shroud. I have had no such issues - but then I monitor my motors to ensure they never go over 160°F.

Good luck!

Edit to add:

I will still be running mine, despite a complete re-configuration of the chassis. I don't want chippings getting in during speed runs, let alone all manner of crap when I'm running off road.
