Was doing some post-run cleaning and found metal dust all around the motor and spur. I installed a new 15 tooth pinion 3 runs ago. The mesh seemed good to me (just a bit of play between pinion & spur). The new pinion is a Yeah Racing mod 1, hardened steel (but was cheap). Despite a few decades in the hobby I've never had a steel spur so not sure what's normal. I also found that the chassis has been rubbed some under the spur...seems kinda weird to me.

Thoughts & opinions?

could you post a more detailed photo of the pinion?
In my opinion ;) this looks like residue fron the pinion, I had the same issue as well.
My pinion was an original Losi, and wore out after 3 battery packs >:(

Not quite in focus...

Here we go...a bit better. Clearly some wear.

Gosh, already pretty worn out!
It's not only about the price, you need to pay attention to get a "hardened steel" pinion.

Well, if you have the urge to spend some money: Robinson - very good and definetly not cheap ;)

Yup,pinion smoked..Tekno or Robinson for me. Hot racing is okay if nobody else makes it IMO, otherwise,I won't buy their products.

I would replace the spur gear too, just looks like it has some leveled out points.

Are all the Corally 52 spur center diffs the same? Seems like the easiest/cheapest way to a new spur is through a full diff from Jenny's.

Good question I can’t answer but spare parts are alway good to have.

As far as I can tell, all the 6s diffs are the same with the exception of spur gear size. The easiest way to tell is to look at each center diff listed for corally rigs on JRC. They usually give a part number list of the included parts on assemblies.

Yea looking at close to $40 for the spur by itself so you might as well just go through Jenny’s
