The first steps after a bashing session are probably the same for most of us: Eventually first cleaning with water, then compressed air and then … what?

I know WD40 is very popular, but there are also concerns about compatibility with plastics and about washing out lubricants.

Then there is the Silicone-spray fraction, where I’m in currently. It is known to have positive effects on the plastics and metal parts as well.

Some others use PTFE-sprays …

What are your preferences?

Muc-off! Pink stuff, 10 min wait, water, compressed air and then Mo 94. Works great

A lot of people worry about WD-40, but I’veUsed it in all my cars, never a problem. And it’s what Corally recommends.

The pink cleaning stuff from Muc-Off seems to be pretty famous in the biking-community and I just found it heavily discounted in a shop here, so I will give that a try.

For afterwards I will probably stay with the Silicone-spray … that’s what Team Corally recommends beside WD40.
By the way, what I have heard is that the WD40 you get here in Europe has a different formula than the “original” one in US …

When putting on detergents or rinsing with water you guys are doing it really at the entire rig or trying to leave out servo, esc, motor, fans, etc.?

Thanks for all your replies up to now … let’s summarise:

You clean with water and/or detergents which have funny colours 😀

You put those over the whole car including electronics without having issues.

For conservation I have seen WD40, Silicone spray and PTFE spray (funny side note: the mentioned GT85 is actually owned and produced by WD40 😉).

Cow RC Moo Wash, compressed air dry, Moo-slick.

I find the Simple Green foam dries out the electronics plastics and makes them brittle.

Hmm good to know, gonna look over my rigs

How much time lapsed before you noticed it? Not doubting you just curious, I have only used SGF on my outcast.

I believe nearly every cleaning agent will dry out plastics - therefore the post-treatment with any kind of spray-oil is important (as it is for iron-metals to prevent rust) ...

It makes sense what you're saying. I guess I'm fooled by the greasy residue left from the SGF. I plan to add the WD40 to repertoire. I have so many cans of the stuff. I get one in my stocking from Santa every year. :D
