Hi all,

My only foray in to RC buggies recently is the Kyosho Neo 4ve 4S electric buggy. I am over in Dortmund and the local model shop has all the TC buggies. The Shogun, however, is at an excellent price. It is the 2025 model and runs the same electronics as the Kagama 6S.

The Shogun 6S will cost £302 after reclaiming tax as a UK resident.

The Kagama 6S would cost £441 for the RTR version.

https://www.modellbau-berlinski.de/...ama-xp-6s-brushless-monstertruck-rtr-1_8-blau

Or £507 for the roller kit with Hobbywing upgrade ESC, Motor and a TC servo. No radio.

Apart from the slightly larger frame is there much benefit in paying £140 more for the Kagama? The Shogun seems a bargain?

What spare parts are worth picking up at the same time if I get the Shogun?

Thanks for any insight all. 👍

The shogun is based on older chassis. The kagama has upgraded spring steel outdrives, thicker abcd/hinge pin blocks, better chassis braces , better arms, to put these parts in shogun would cost more than £140. The esc in corally is rebranded Hobbywing. Shogun still good but you might end spending similar to kagama in the end, if break arms abcd blocked etc but they can be upgraded to kagama versions. Corally transmitter/receiver & servo are there biggest weak points out the box. Can compate the difference between models in here

Welcome to the forum!👍
The Shogun is a truggy where the Kagama is a monter truck, so the Shogun has better handling where the Kagama can handle jumps better.
But the biggest difference is this Shogun version is a built for a specific store; it’s no longer available in other stores or on the Team Corally webshop.
The Kagama has all the better Swiss Steel diff cups and new cvd’s (if not installed you get the free upgrade part from Corally).
Is the Shogun a bad car? No, but it’s an old car discontinued with some newer parts. The Kagama is a current car with even batter parts,

I prefer truggy myself & shogun definitely looks better, I would probably buy the shogun & modify it add the spring steel outdrives & upgrade hinge pin blocks then change arms for kagama when they break. There’s no bad choice really just your choice

All good and valid points, thanks!

I'm not a proper basher as I don't have access to anywhere with jumps and need to look to make a jump board up. I just like thrashing around on the ground mostly just now.

I don't mind spending the money but the Shogun just seems great VFM. I'd upgrade parts to reduce downtime from damage but maybe wouldn't appreciate upgrade parts to make the car a better ha fling experience. Not at the moment maybe.

Also worth noting the Shogun has the same servo and radio as the Kagama as part of it being the 2025 version. 👍

If I went all out is it worth getting the Hobbywing sensored Quikrun set up offered as a bundle? If got a Kyosho radio with gyro I could use if I got a roller chassis. Just not sure if feel the £200 extra gave me a £200 better experience as a basher newbie? I'd also probably spend all the time trying to stop it doing wheelies but it seems that's when I'd be adding thicker diff oil?

Oh and thanks for the welcome and can I just say how much I miss a proper forum like this! Faceook groups are great but I love the ability to read threads on a forum and take in knowledge from previous posts. Facebook groups is too all over the place.

Corally electronics are best in class out of the box. They are basically a rebranded max8 combo. Corally servo is OK, which I would only upgrade once the stock one will start to act strange (starting to glitch) or if you feel you need a stronger/faster servo.
The stock Corally radio isn’t very good so that the first thing I’d upgrade. You could use your own radio or have a look at the DumboRC DDF350 (don’t let the ‘stupid’ name fool you). Cheap, long range, multi model memory, lots of adjustability and with the X6FG receiver you have adjustable gyro. In our Rc group we have several using this radio, including myself. Yes a Noble NB4 is faster and even more programmable options, but also costs 4-5 times more.

If just ground bashing maybe light jumps & don’t want a wheelie machine shogun is the better choice it’ll do everything you need it to. Kagama is a wheelie machine on bigger tires. If new to hobby spending less probably better choice until figure out if hobby for you.

The kagama replaced the Kronos, the Kronos is same chassis layout as shogun, I’ve turned my Kronos xtr into a truggy & added kagama arms etc also just recently added the shiroi front bumper to it. If shogun fits the bill for you go for it I say , modify whatever you need to or want to when you need too.

Why is my Asuga 4 euros more expensive? You have different prices. That is weird.
If you change the adress to Netherlands the tax will change from 19% German to 21% Dutch VAT.
I was wondering as well when I bought that Spark roller from them😄.

Thanks everyone for your input. Some nice pics posted here! Now I've had time to do a load of reading and Youtubing and the answers here I've decided to go pick up a Shogun before I head to the airport. The price seems excellent for the spec especially with tax refunded. I'm also more up to speed on different model types. I've got the Kyosho Neo which is a buggy, the Shogun will add a 6S Truggy to the collection then I'll get the Kagama Truck at a later point. I've got a 20yr old HPI Savage in the attic which I'm now inspired to dig out and get running again too.

I'll pick up a Kagama Roller when I come over again and the HW Ezrun kit best suited for it and put more time in to choosing the electronics.

Is there any benefit to getting some belted wheel/tyres for when I run the Shogun on an old airfield I visit? The shop has some belted Badlands 3.8s.

Also thanks for the radio suggestion. The Doggo one seems great for the price. I also see Radiolink do some decent sets. The RC4GS is about 60 euro. Has anyone used that one?

Please post any other suggestions for bits to grab in the morning when I pop to the shop!

Kagama front struts?
Composite steering links?
Different Pinion or spur gear?
Motor Heatsink/Fan?

Oh dear! It's going to get a bit obsessive I think! 😝

Only thing thing tou will need is heatsink/fan. Corally motors run hot so I definitely recommend cooling it.
Shogun tires are pretty good and don’t balloon much, so no need for heavier belted tires.
If you will be running it on 6s you don’t need a different pinion or spur gear, if you plan to run it on 4s I would pick up a bigger pinion, but you can buy those everywhere.

Apart from the heatsink/fan some good tools (screwsrivers etc) will come in handy.

Thanks Sandracer,

Just been and spent my pocket money. Shogun, some nice 3.8 slicks for the runway I can use, motor heatsink, upgraded battery straps, SkyRC GPS oh and a UMX Turbo Timber Evolution in a huge ass box!

I'll run 6S so no pinion needed. Steering arms look the new composite style so not needed either.

Look forward to getting this lot driving and flying!

Oooft fun! I only got 38mph although the terrain wasn't ideal for a speed run. Is it 65mph capable put of the box or will I need to change the Pinion to get that speed? I read the Shogun has a 13T Pinion so I might need to buy a 16T? Annoyed if that's the case. They should include one in the box if it's needed for the speed the box says you can get.

This is the speed chart of the original Shogun. I’m not sure if your ‘Local Hobby Shop’ edition has the same gearing.
Note that these speeds are on asphalt, offroad the speeds are lower.
