My Punisher 4 will make a screeching noise on occasion. Usually its with an abrupt direction change, sometimes on a take off of a jump etc.... and I wanna say typically under power. My gear mesh is on point. Almost sounds like metal on metal but who knows. This happen to anyone?

🤔
If you could record a quick clip with sound maybe we could here it?
It could be the diff?
Could be something rubbing on something.
Hard to say just by your question.

Yeah, I know it’s not exactly an easy diagnosis based on my post. I’ll try and get a clip of it but may take a little time. Interesting thing is if I just drove it super cruisy it fine

Just did some inspecting and other than a little wear on the front drive shaft where it enters the center diff, looks like ther could be some wear on the chassis under the spur gear. Very slight but there. Everything is tight and no movement where it’s not supposed to be can there be that much flex for it to make contact?

When my son drives his Kagama, I hear "screeching" I think this is what is called "diffing out"

Diff "barking" or "unloading."
On a jump takeoff, the front wheels naturally want to spin faster than the rears. The center diff allows this, but if the fluid inside is too thin (or low), the internal gears can spin at an astronomical RPM. This extreme speed can cause a screeching or loud whirring sound as the gears and pins are put under immense stress.

The center diff needs to be rebuilt with much thicker silicone diff fluid. For a 4WD truck that is diffing out like this, you would typically use very thick fluid, often in the range of 100,000 cSt to 500,000 cSt, or even thicker.

I use 1 mill diff oil in my centre diff ... My son still manages to have this noise occasionally, He tends to play a bit harder than I. He doesn't pay for the breaks, or fix them when they do.

I've seen YouTube videos that use 20 mill!
Or an ear plug! This is way to much in my opinion.

I think this could be the issue.

I am by no means an expert, I just started like 9 months ago.
But I have a couple of 4s Kagamas (same car different body). And a couple of 6s Kagamas.
(I love Kagamas)

Hopefully someone with a bit more knowledge can add some advice.

Only occasional screeching noise I get on my Kagama 6s version is when the tyres balloon on back flips or blasting the throttle trying get it line up in the air, it will also do it while cornering sometimes wheels diffing out I guess on that one. The body shell has some rub marks in the corners of the wheel arches from all the wheel rub 😬

Its not done it at all since I put the Arrma 6s backflips on thinking about it, the stock tyres are very thin and balloon like mad on the 6s Kagama not sure about the 4s version.

Thanks so much for the info. Won’t know for sure till I mess around with it but I honestly feel this could be the culprit

Ahhh, that is interesting.
Something else to add to the shopping list

They are very nice wheels to blast about on tons of grip and still ballon for air control / backflips. If you like stunts stick with the stock tyres they make backflips effortless.

The backflips 6s I got them for all round use for off road driving, air control etc because the stock ones wobble and fold too much on cornering for my liking. Makes the kagama more stable and predictable when driving now for my use.

Little up date. Few days ago stripped the Punisher down for some mods and trouble shooting. Tonight I got into the center diff to inspect and change the fluid to 250K. No Idea how but noticed orange chunks and realized its O ring material. Stripped it all down and the O ring on the spur gear that sits recessed between the spur and the shim was gone and had floated around getting minced to pieces. Not sure what to think but we'll see when it back together.

My centre diffs love eating o rings 🙄 , its either o ring gets eaten up or the shim wears down that covers the o ring. I only strip them down now if its leaking really bad 😆.

If you need any o rings I got a pack of these https://ebay.us/m/8WlG03, same as the corally ones but get more of them for cheaper.

Snap! Mine is showing signs of trauma. They're very fragile. I've ordered 2 packs of 5 of these and now coat them in green slime to help stop leakage and prevent damage.

Well atleast im not alone haha. Feel a little better.

Also, what about shims? Where everyone getting there shims? I'd like to get a sorted box of different sizes that will fit the diiff's and any other areas like A arms, hubs etc....
